Can I put carbon bags into my aquarium?

You know how we can buy those black carbon in a box? Can I just put some into my aquarium? I'm trying to grow some healthy plants and in the tank I have fiddler crabs and pleco helping me out. I also put my baby guppies in their as well. I have those carbon bags from tetra.
