Does this sentence make sense?

I'm writing an essay about the book "Candy" by Luke Davies. Would it make sense to say "Imagine the exigent need to constantly shoot up..." Exigent? Exigency? Should I use another word? I learned it a few weeks ago so it's fairly new to me... It's a great word~I'd like to incorporate it somehow. Thank you!
